Book Signing for Laura Hamje's CONCRETE GHOST

Saturday, Sep 05, 2020 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Location:
Arundel Books
212 1st Ave S.
Seattle WA 98104

Join artist Laura Hamje and Arundel Books for a breezy outdoor book signing on Saturday, September 5th, from 1-4 p.m. to celebrate the launch of Concrete Ghost: Seattle’s Vanished Viaduct and Emerging Waterfront in the Paintings of Laura Hamje.

Hamje started painting bridges in 2011 after a trip to Astoria, Oregon, fascinated by their form and their ability to span and connect across great distances. She completed over five dozen paintings of the Viaduct before its demise last year and her work pulls once-familiar moments to mind, a rapidly changing city caught through the window of a fast moving car. This collection offers a vivid reminder of impermanence and ingenuity, Seattle’s scrappy pioneering spirit then and now, and in a body of new work, explores the beginnings of the new waterfront-to-be.

Concrete Ghost includes texts from architect Mark Hinshaw, Bryan Ohno, Nathan Vass, Baso Fibonacci, Mike Dumovich, and editor Phil Bevis. The collection is published by Chatwin Books Publishing in Pioneer Square and is now available for pre-order at chatwinbooks.com

While you’re in Pioneer Square, you can also plan a visit to the nearby Linda Hodges Gallery where Hamje’s original viaduct and waterfront paintings will be on display from Sept. 3 - 26th.
