Presentation copy, signed and inscribed by Johnson in black ink on front free endpaper, April 19, 1979: 'Dick, I must apologize, deeply, for missing your class last week -- my students kept me pinned in the office until it was too late -- but I wanted to give you a copy of my novel ... in thanks for your friendship, your support, and the delightful time I had on your program, 'Postscript to Roots'.
