Stenterello Astrologo Per Ghiottoneria: Ovvero Schiampagna e Borgogna : Commedia in 2 Atti

NP, 1911. First Edition. Trade Paperback. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall (small). Good / No Jacket. Item #L058461

Slight soiling and rubbing to wrappers; slight internal warping, browning and/or foxing to few leaves (chiefly to edges). [78] pages (unpaginated). Text in Italian. Probable 'acting copy' in holograph manuscript, apparently prepared by one of the actors in an early production (identified as one 'Giuseppe Bandini' on title page, and apparently chiefly in his holographic hand throughout). Title page is put together from an early printed edition of the 2-act farce, which takes place in the environs of Florence (generally in the 'commedia dell'arte' tradition, but without any of the stock characters of those pieces); text is neatly written enough in fairly legible black ink, with holograph additions and corrections in pen and various colored pencils (chiefly red and blue, but also in black), some of which may be by the author himself. Signed by Gazzarini on 'title page' and at end of text (in full; both times in black ink); last 3 leaves (6 pages) contain additional suggestions for both acts, and stylized initials 'D' and 'G' in pencil (possibly also from the printed edition?). Date is somewhat conjectural (actually dated in unknown holograph, possibly Bandini's, '12/11/11' at foot of title page; more than likely November 12, 1911). Unusual and rare theatrical turn-of-the-twentieth century item.1 b/w Illustration (title page).
