PRESENTATION COPY, signed and inscribed by author to his cousin: 'To my Cousin John Julius Estridge Xmas 1891 from the author.' A fine copy in the original full brown morocco, spine ruled in gilt, covers bordered with a single gilt rule, front cover titled in gilt, all edges gilt, patterned endpapers (very slight wear). Illustrated with 30 mounted original photographs of the author's drawings on-site in the Seychelles, mainly of flora and fauna. Henry Whatley Estridge (1837-1902) was a first-class cricketeer, sailor, soldier, noted for his long service in the Colonial Service. A tipped-in label on the title page notes that Queen Victoria had allowed the author to present the work to her. 'Six Years in the Seychelles' is based on the author's service there as collector of customs.
