Ulysses
Published for the Egoist Press, London by John Rodker, Paris, 1922. First Edition. Leather Binding. Very Good. Item #665004
First English (UK) edition, printed in France (by Maurice Darantiere, Dijon). A very good copy, bound in 3/4 blue polished calf over blue cloth, spine with raised bands, red morocco label, and gilt tooling (slight wear to binding; text has some smudging, foxing, and the occasionally folded page corner; half-title has a chip at top from careless opening - the chip still adhering to the conjoined leaf). 'Published for the Egoist Press' (title page). Slocum & Cahoon A18; one of 2000 numbered copies printed, October 1922 (this copy is #487), of which 500 copies were supposedly seized and burned by the American authorities. The 8 pages of 'Errata' (the latter originally laid in loose) are not present. A solid leather-bound copy of one of the rarer earlier editions of Joyce's masterwork. [8], 732, [9] pages. PROVENANCE: Pictorial engraved bookplate of Robert Hall with 1902 date on front pastedown (designed by William P. Barrett).
Price: $2,000.00
