Scarce printing of this American classic. With advert slip tipped-on the ffep advertising both Leaves of Grass and Specimen Days announcing “In Press—Ready in September” 5 ½ x 7 5/8 in. 382pp., with engraved portrait plate and tissue opposite pg. 29. Original mustard cloth with gilt stamped titles on spine and Whitman’s signature on front board. BAL 21419. Text is based on the corrected plates by Rand & Every in Boston June 22, 1882, 1000 copies of the First Printing delivered from the bindery July 17, 1882; with all the corrections listed in the BAL. Light wear to thee spine tips and at the corners (rear top corner bumped) else a Very Good copy with a tight binding (inner hinges strong and intact).
