Laid in loose is a b/w halftone photograph signed in full by Albert Schweitzer, showing his hospital from the water side, captioned in ink in a secretarial hand: 'Hospital buildings in the shadow of palm trees.' 5.75 x 4 inches, halftone reproduction of a photograph (photo has some creasing, pin marks to upper corners, some tape to verso). Inserted at rear (via a hole punch and brass brads) are 10 xeroxed leaves - 6 of Schweitzer's French-language correspondence with a US-based foundation, with 4 pages of English transcriptions. The photograph was also sent to the foundation in thanks for its support. A good copy of the first American edition hardcover in jacket (jacket price-clipped with tears, wear and tape repairs; book has reading and shelf wear, as well as holes punched in last 2 leaves and endpaper to accomodate inserted leaves). 176 pages. With additional text by Schweitzer; notable for the gravure monochrome photo reproductions. 27 color & 170 b/w photographs.
