A very good copy of this 15 volume set of the Payne translation of the Arabian Nights (with some additional texts), this being copy #401 of 500 numbered sets of the Luristan edition. Original red cloth, paper spine labels, top edges gilt (some wear; some nicking to spine labels). The source of the celebrated Arabian Nights 'is uncertain. The framework is of Persian origin.. but the stories themselves told by Scheherazade are, for the most part, not Persian bit Arabian in character, and were probably collected in Egypt by a professional storyteller at some time in the 14th-16th cents.'
