A complete set of the first editions in original jackets (Volumes I and III are first printings, Volume II is not). 3 volumes, complete as issued. One of the greatest works dealing with American military history. Original black cloth stamped in gilt; original jackets (price-clipped jackets have fading and nicks to edges; bindings have some chips, wear and fading; some fading and wear to cloth; usual offset to endpaper gutters; ink inscription and bookplate of prior owner on endpapers of volumes II and III; different ink name on rear pastedown of volume I). Printing dates for this set are 1942; 1943; 1944, Volume I and Volume III copyright pages have the Scribner's 'A', Volume II does not (and is hence a later printing).
