The Moral History of Frugality with its opposite Vices, Covetousness, Niggardliness, and Prodigality, Luxury
Printed for J. Hindmarsh, at the Golden Bail over against the Royal Exchange in Cornhill, 1691. First Edition. Leather Binding. Very Good. Item #606802
A Very Good copy in period full brown speckled calf, edges speckled red. The binding has some unusual features, being without pastedowns, also with text being sewn into the boards, and false 'endpapers' being blanks inserted at front and rear, with stubs (instead of an actual endpaper). The binding is rubbed, upper hinge just starting at foot; the lack of pastedowns has allowed offset fom the leather turn-ins to offset the edges of the first and last several leaves has offsetting. // Leaf F5v (p.74) line 5 ends: 8635l. 5s. 4d.; line 8 ends: 86330 l. by simple. [8], 95, [1] pages, with license leaf preceding title leaf. Written by the Honourable Sir George Mackenzie ... PROVENANCE: Period ink inscription on inner front board (where the pastedown would normally be) reads: 'The Rev. Mr. W Torkington's Gift' in a fine hand.
