Scarce first edtion, bound in period 3/4 dark brown morocco over marbled boards, spine with raised bands and elaborate interlocking floral tooling within gilt-ruled compartments, covers ruled in gilt, red speckled edges (spine and boards rubbed, pencil note on endpaper). Tennant (1784-1848), Scots scholar, poet and dramatist. His plays, written in blank verse, were unappreciated in his time, and have remained so since. 'Fortunately for Tennant’s character as a poet, his retirement from the stage was calm and graceful' (Chambers).
