Original bound manuscript account ledger from Hubbardston, in Worcester County, Massachusetts 1834-59, recording the extensive affairs of Captain Micajah Reed (sometimes Reid), and George W. Reid. 160 leaves, of which 103 (206 pages) are filled recto and verso with a remarkable level of detail about the Reed/Reid dealings in everything from tobacco and rum to animals, services, financial transactions, labor, transport, etc. In addition, 3 additional period holograph documents are laid in (one a bill to the town of Hubbardston, Massachusetts). Towns include Hubbardston, Massachusetts and the surrounding area - Barre, Worcester, Boston, Plymouth, etc., with transactions as far afield as New York. A fascinating window into the regional economy of 19th-century Massachusetts. Bound in 19th-century 3/4 brown leather over green boards (heavily rubbed; text has some foxing, smudges, stains; inner hinges split).
