Bound in 17th-century French speckled calf, spines with raised bands and gilt tooling, edges speckled red (heavy rubbing with some chipping to spines; boards rubbed; some wear to text margins). PROVENANCE: Small ink stamps to title pages reading 'D. A. Lejay' (?spelling); bookplates in first two volumes bear the bookplate of celebrated collector Montgomery Evans II, with his superb pictorial ex libris designed and illustrated by S.H. Sime (illustrator of many works by Lord Dunsany), volume I bears the pencilled note on front endpaper 'M.E. 1920' (the bookplate in this volume has a long tear). Evans was also the author of 'Prodigal Sons; Or, the Evolution of Caste'. Engraved Frontispieces in Each Volume.
