[2], 442 pages + plates. Title at head of page [1]: The Ladies' Cabinet of Fashion, Music, and Romance. Typical period 'gift book'; includes over 30 prose and verse excerpts (generally uncredited, as is the work as a whole); notable particularly for the hand-colored plates, featuring contemporary fashions in London (4 each for the months of January through May, plus 6 for the month of June), with descriptive notes; and for the engraved views of Haddon Hall and the city of Oxford (in addition to the engraved title page). Not located in either BMC or in Halkett & Laing; printed by J. C. Henderson. One volume only; bound in 3/4 dark green calf over brown marbled boards, spine stamped and decorated gilt and blind, with partly raised bands, covers ruled gilt, matching marbled edges and endpapers. Provenance: From the library of Richard Hanbury Gurney, with his armorial bookplate on front attached endpaper.
