With holograph signature in full, with paraph; plus holograph place and date. Slight browning to edges; else a well-preserved example. Boyesen (1848-95), Norwegian-born and American-adopted author and educator, emigrated to the US in 1869; professor of German at both Cornell and Columbia universities; best known for his 4 romantic and naturalistic novels ('Gunnar', 1874; 'The Mammon of Unrighteousness', 1891; 'The Golden Calf', 1892; 'The Social Strugglers', 1893) and for 'Essays on Scandinavian Literature' (1895).
