Typed Letter Signed ('Skinny'), Scottsdale, AZ, January 30, 1983

NP, 1983. Trade Paperback. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall (small). Very Good / No Jacket. Item #L054918

1 page (1 leaf; recto only). Letter on personal letterhead, in reply to one 'Erskine Vos' of San Francisco: 'Sure, I'll be your friend and don't you forget it. You must have been named for somebody just as I was ... I think you are well off with the name you've got. There are many other boys ... [that] will have to live with their names for the rest of their lives. Stay with it, Skinny! Your friend, [signed, with paraph] Skinny'. Interesting from the point of view that Caldwell was apparently the dupe of the original correspondent, who used various names to obtain autographs of celebrities by appending their unusual names to his. Slight horizontal creases; else a very well-preserved piece; with typed addressed envelope (personalized on rear flap) and cancelled stamp, plus Xeroxed copy and typed transcriptions. Caldwell (born 1903), Georgia-born American writer, most famous for his novels of the South, 'Tobacco Road' (1932) and 'God's Little Acre' (1933); also for his short stories and essays.
