Thoroughgoing survey of the city's history and its multifarious personalities; notable for the many portraits included, particularly in its third volume; also for the several reproduced holograph signatures of 19th century notables. 3 volumes complete (Volume I: New York to the Consolidation; Volume II: Brooklyn and the Other Boroughs; Volume III: Encyclopedia of New York Biography and Genealogy); uniformly bound in 3/4 brown morocco over matching cloth, gilt-stamped spines with raised bands, plain endpapers, t.e.g., remaining edges trimmed. Slight wear and rubbing to extremities (chiefly edges and corners); upper cover of volume 3 detached; some dampstaining to latter half of volume I (with subsequent warping, etc); some internal browning and/or foxing (chiefly to edges and endpapers); else a very serviceable pictorial fine-bound set.14 Steel Engravings, 10 Inserted Illustrations (including maps); 561 b/w Text Illustrations (including Photographs and facsimiles).
