Honor; Or, The Slave-Dealer's Daughter

Boston: William V. Spencer, 1864. First Edition. Hardcover. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Good. Item #L046136

238pp. Purple pebbled coth, with gilt titles on spine. An antislavery novel, notable for the author's short preface, stating his wish to "do justice to the better side of southern character, while portraying some features of that fatal system". Wright II, 411; with title page of "Home Life: What It Is, and What It Needs" by John F.W. Ware following text. Wear to extremities, sunning and rubbing to spine and covers; some internal browning and/or foxing. Provenance: With the ink signature and inscription of one "Acting Ensign Geo. F. Howes, U.S. Navy", dated August 2, 1864. Still a serviceable copy of a scarce work, with a fairly intriguing Civil War provenance.

Price: $100.00
