Bound in period 3/4 brown calf over red/brown marbled boards, plain endpapers (chipping and wear; bindings fragile; a few covers starting at hinges; ome internal browning and/or foxing; previous owner's ink signature on front free endpaper of most volumes). Title supplied. Assembled set of the works of Shakespeare (contents to follow); plus the introduction 'containing an essay on oratory' (title page). Contains 'Coriolanus', 'Measure for Measure', 'All's Well That Ends Well', 'The Merchant of Venice', 'King John', 'Henry IV, Part I', 'The Winter's Tale', 'The Tempest', 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Much Ado About Nothing' (in addition to the introduction). 11 volumes in all (most with the printed designation 'Second Edition' on title pages). Exteriors as noted (fs, else a very serviceable set, particularly for the engraved plates. Actual book dimensions: 4 1/2 in. x 7 3/4 in. Over 15 engraved Illustrations.
