Small 4to [4],179,[7 ]pp+ Biographies of the famous actresses of the Comedie Francaise who took roles in Moliere's works (Madeleine and Genevieve Bejart, 'La Beauval', Mad emoiselle Beaupre, et al). Text in French. One of 25 copies of the deluxe edition (this is copy #24), printed on 'Chine Volant' paper, and with all 10 plates in 3 states of printing. Bound in half vellum over brown marbled boards, gilt-stamped dark red morocco spine label, blue/red cockerell endpapers, red silk bookmarker, top edge stained brick-red, untrimmed fore- and bottom edges; original wrappers bound in. Exterior as noted (lower edge of up per cover slightly bumped; slight wear to edges and corners); interior foxing/browning chiefly to original wrappers and generally unaffecting plates. Very good and very rare.10 engraved Plates.
