First Edition, First State with sheets bulking about 1 1/8 in. title leaf (2) conjugate with leaf (3), and signature on the frontispiece measures 1 7/16 in. Bound in the original full sheep over boards, with red and black leather title labels stamped in gilt; b/w portrait with tissue guard, and other illustrations throughout the margins. BAL 3442 Front board is cracked (but still attached), rear board has a stain along the fore-edge (does not affect the text or endsheets), and wear to the corners; interior is clean, binding is tight. Overall a Very Good copy.
