Sublunary Editions, 2022. First Edition. Trade Paperback. New. Item #606811
New. Empyrean Series No. 17. 'In Pages from the Diary of a Jackass (1925), a faithful beast of burden belonging to a drunkard farmer recounts the hapless adventures of his master, one of the inhabitants of a backwater town thrown into chaos by the arrival of a new deacon. Facing change and the loss of reputation, the farmer increasingly mistreats his jackass, who begins to question why he continues working for such a master. A political fable reminiscent of Orwell’s Animal Farm, Dukić’s novella is a playful but moralistic work poking fun at religious and philosophical ideals. The English translation was made in 1931 by Vincent Ujčić, pen name Vincent Georges, for the Progress Press of New York City in 1931.' ~ Publisher.
