First edition of the Ridpath translation, in the original brown and blue boards (spine and boards rubbed, some chipping to spine, both boards detached). A clean copy in the scarce original boards, text entirely uncut. PROVENANCE: Ink signature on front board of John D. Treadwell of Salem, Massachusetts, one of the founders of the Salem Philosophical Library (now the Salem Atheneum), also what appear to be his initials oppposite title page. Later bookplates on front pastedown of the Independent Congregationalist Society, Salem, and the Essex Institute Library. No other library markings.
