Bound in full red straight-grained Russian morocco by I. Barratt (stamp of 'I. Barratt Binder' on verso of front free endpaper), spine titled in gilt with gilt rules, covers bordered with a single gilt rule, upper cover features a gilt quote from Boethius' The Consolation of Philosophy at center of panel, 'exiguum mole munus , sed ingens pondere' ('a small size, but a huge weight'), gilt inner dentelles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. The spine and edges are darkened with minor rubbing, and there is some foxing to text. This volume features a superb aquatint view of the River Tweed by Samael Alken, Senior.
