Typed Letter Signed from Charles W. Eliot (Harvard President, 1869-1909), to LeBaron Russell Briggs. 1 page, dated August 6, 1924, typed letter with holograph addition and bold, clear signature. Very personal letter thanking Briggs and his wife for sending flowers to mark the sad occasion of the death of Eliot’s own wife: 'There can be no more appropriate and delightful memento of Mrs. Eliot's body and soul, on earth or in heaven.' A wonderful testament to the long, close relationship between these two great Harvard figures. Eliot was one of the truly great figures in the history of Harvard, serving forty years as President (1869-1909). LeBaron Russell Briggs, one of the great figures in the history of Harvard, Radcliffe, and the NCAA. Briggs was first Dean of Men at Harvard College, where he also served as dean of the faculty. He was also president of Radcliffe College and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
