First complete edition, with a fair amount of new material (plus Mallet's "Life") being published for the first time in this set. 4 volumes, complete as issued in matching period full brown polished calf, spines expertly and unobtrusively rebacked in brown calf, spines with six raised bands, red morocco labels, and gilt-ruled compartments; covers bordered with twin gilt rules, edges speckled red (boards have some old staining and wear; cracking to joints; some minor marginal dampstaining in parts; some marginal worming at rear of Vol. II). PROVENANCE: I) Ink signature in three of the four volumes of "Sam Medley, 1740". II) Engraved bookplate in each volume bearing the monogram G.O. flanked by olive branches with a crown above"L'Olivette", engraved by Silvain Guillot, Paris; III) Library ink stamps in each volume of Byrant and Mildred Dunn.
