Galerie du Palais Royal (3 Volumes Bound in 2)

Paris: J. Couche, 1786. B/w Engraved Plates. First Edition. Leather Binding. Oversized Folio. Very Good. Item #00519967

3 volumes, bound in 2. 192 plates in vol. I; 147 plates in vol. II (339 total plates - of the either 352, 354, or 355 issued - collations vary). Impressions are crisp, clean. Some plates are remargined. Most volumes coming to the market have fewer than 200 plates, so this set is remarkably complete. "Notice historique sur la galerie du Palais royal" (v. 1, p. [1]-4) signed: Croze-Magnan. PROVENANCE: engraved armorial bookplates in each volume, no name - motto "semper progrediens" - known to be ex-libris of Rudolf Gutmann. The collection was formed by Philippe II, duc d'Orleans. It was dispersed during the French revolution and the paintings sold in England. Engraved by, and under the direction of Jacques Couche. BINDING: 3/4 period straight-grained green morocco over matching boards (some rubbing).

Price: $4,800.00
