Paris: Hazan, 1988. B&W Photographs. First Edition. Paperback (boxed). 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Near Fine. Item #00500855
One of the scarcest and most interesting works in the Doisneau canon, this work was issued to accompany the exhibit (1988-89) in Paris of his superb work for the French automobile maker Renault. The images include fashionable portrayals of Renault autos and models, as well as an extensive and superb collection of views of cars and truck at various stages in the manufacturing process, workers, etc. The book is housed in a steel slipcase intended for auto bodies from Renault's own factories, painted a bright red to match the book cover, held together with 5 stainless screws and twin locking nuts; each cover features chromed diamond-shaped metal badges (ca. 4.5 inches high) reading "Doisneau", inset in the covers, and printed in black. An exceptionally fresh copy (spine has some creasing, there is some faint wear to the metal case and to covers). Text is clean and fresh. Spine title: Doisneau Renault. "Ce livre a ete realise en collaboration avec La Grande Halle-La Villette a l'occasion de l'exposition des photographies de Robert Doisneau (16 novembre 1988-22 janvier 1989). Les propos de Robert Doisneau ont ete recueillis par Andre Maisonneuve."
